    Violin and Cello duo, Hafren, come to Altogether Otherwise with musical friends for or an eclectic evening of folk and folk-adjacent classical music. Mabon Jones (violin) and Daniel Springate (cello) will be joined by Alice Roberts (harp), Raddon Stephenson (accordion) and Ben Johnson (drums) as they journey through the realms of classical, folk and popular music. You’ll hear classical works by the likes of Zoltan Kodaly and Sally Beamish, arrangements of folk music from across the British Isles, as well as original Hafren compositions from this unique 5-piece ensemble. Come and hear what it’s all about, and be like Hafren - bring your friends…

    You are invited to a Big Lunch gathering, for a few hours of friendship, food and fun, bringing together community minded people, groups, organisations and partners to make connections and enjoy time together over some great food.

    Location: Altogether Otherwise, 6-10 Hanover St, Manchester M4 4BB
    
    Altogether Otherwise is a fantastic community Hobby House space in the centre of Manchester, we are delighted that we have found them to host us – we are sure that you will love them too! With their help, we have got some fun and creative activities lined up for us to try out together on the day, including bunting making ready to dress the room for our Big Lunch, and zine making to be able to tell everyone about it afterwards!
    
    The tasty food for our Big Lunch will be crafted by Bounceback Food, who through an enormous range of nation-wide initiatives including community kitchens, market stalls, supper clubs and foodbank deliveries, are on a mission to fight food poverty. As a real treat, we will be getting hands on in the kitchen too, alongside the chef, to create a small selection of side and sweet dishes to add to our shared table!

    
    

    In the spirit of The Big Lunch, we are also inviting guests to bring a small side item of food to add to the table if they wish.  This could be anything from a bag of crisps, a piece of fruit or your favourite homemade traybake if you have a sweet tooth.  There is no pressure to bring anything at all and there will be plenty of food for everyone.
    
    We will have a photographer with us on the day and will be sharing news of the event with local and national media, with the potential for media to join us to help encourage even more people to join in with The Big Lunch.

    Together We Rise – Walking Tour

    Sign up for an alternative lunchtime and learn something new and unusual with writer Hayley Flynn. Inspired by James Sadler.

    Together We Rise is a creative collaboration visually bringing the story of James Sadler to life, 10-years since Sadler’s Yard was named by public vote.

    NOMA has teamed up with illustrator, Beth Travers of BOBO1325 – a Partner at architectural & design destination Material Source Studio based at NOMA – to artistically chart the life of pastry chef-turned-balloonist Sadler.

    In the first of a series of free events, join local writer Hayley Flynn on Tuesday 14 May at 12pm for a specially curated walking tour.

    Hayley brings her placemaking and critical-thinking specialism to the tour, revealing the lesser known stories of the wider NOMA neighbourhood as seen through an alternative eye.

    There is also an opportunity to see Beth and the first artwork in the Together We Rise series as it takes shape in a visit to Material Source Studio.
