Altogether Otherwise is a place where things always happen. Where making, doing, and shared endeavour are all part of the fun. We run workshops, create things, and keep the Hobby House buzzing with activity. No end goals, no pressure, just a space to tinker, try, and enjoy the simple joy of doing.
Every Monday Evening our FOOD TASTES GOOD Club gather to bring, cook and share food together.

Mike, the head of growing and volunteering, from Platt Fields Market Garden is joining us for an evening talk to share a bit about this unique urban market garden and community hub. Platt Fields is a busy market garden producing over a tonne of food a year on just half an acre of land, feeding the volunteers, visitors and catering across the city. All of the food is grown organically by Mike and a huge number of volunteers in what was once a disused bowling green in the middle of Fallowfield.Â
Mike will cover the history of how the garden came to be and how it was transformed into the green haven it is today. So if youâve ever wondered how you could start your own community garden on your patch nowâs the time to find out.Â
Thereâs so many ways to get involved with Platt Fields Market Garden and Mike will be telling us about all that the garden has to offer the community, from clubs, courses and workshops to festivals and markets. We look forward to seeing you there, the Plant team.Â

Mending used to be second nature - most homes had a tin of buttons, needles, and thread ready for repairs. Now, a missing button or worn-out sock often means the end of a garment.
Mending Club brings those lost skills back. Itâs a friendly, free space to slow down, learn or practice mending, and share stories stitched into our clothes. Bring along the jeans youâve worn to death, your moth-eaten jumper, or socks with holes - together weâll give them new life.
No experience needed - whether youâre a seasoned stitcher or canât thread a needle, youâre welcome. Every other Tuesday at Altogether Otherwise, we gather to darn, patch, stitch, and mend. Tools and materials are provided, and inspiration is always on hand.
Expect a casual social environment where we can share what weâre currently working on, ask for advice and chat. Weâre all about sharing knowledge and skills, so if youâre not sure how to go about a particular mend, feel free to ask! If you donât have access to all the supplies you might need, a range of needles and materials will be supplied. If youâre not sure what you may need for a particular mend, check out the @manchestermendingclub Instagram for more inspiration.
