From Car park to Community Garden
Every Tuesday evening at 6pm, we invite you to come along to Altogether Otherwise to dig in and unwind at our Evening Gardening Club, tucked away behind the our ‘Hobby House’ at NOMA.
Whether you’ve got green fingers or are new to gardening, you’re welcome to drop in and join the fun — no experience required, just a willingness to muck in and maybe learn a thing or two.
Led by artist and designer Joe Hartley, the club is less about ticking tasks off a horticultural checklist and more about enjoying the act of gardening together. It’s a chance to tend to the garden, build beds, plant seeds, prune, and join in — all in a relaxed, unpressured atmosphere.
The garden itself is a reclaimed urban spot, once a forgotten car park, and now a flourishing green space set against a dramatic backdrop of city towers. This space was slowly brought to life on Tuesday evenings and is a by-product of a desire to bring people together outdoors. As Joe puts it, “we try to focus as much as possible on the gardening rather than the garden,” celebrating the process, not perfection.
It’s just as much a social space as it is a green space. The club is entirely free and open to all, including NOMA residents, workers, and visitors. No signup is needed, just turn up at 6pm on Tuesdays at 6pm – Avery Building, 10 Hanover Street, you’ll find the garden through the back gate on Riga Street.
Tools, compost, and warm welcomes are provided; just bring you.
