Dr. Martens turns Altogether Otherwise at NOMA into a stomping ground for poster makers

Dr. Martens is bringing bouncing soles to Manchester this autumn with the Suddenly Real Poster Shop at Altogether Otherwise based in the NOMA Neighbourhood, a community-led, free weekly workshop where anyone can come along and make posters without needing a big budget or a professional design studio.

Suddenly Real Poster Shop is part of With Bouncing Soles, Dr. Martens’ new global platform which hosts events in the UK anchored in celebrating ‘micro-joys’. The With Bouncing Soles programme of events is fundamentally a platform for participation and a tribute to the people who have shaped Dr. Martens for over 60 years. This October, the brand will host a series of events across Manchester, each built around a different answer to “What Makes Your Sole Bounce?”

The poster shop launches at 6pm on Wednesday 14 October, when Altogether Otherwise becomes an open studio for anyone who wants to make a no-tech, high-impact poster. The launch evening will bring people together for drinks, music, and naturally, poster making.

Suddenly Real Poster Shop is all about creating posters just for the fun of it. The weekly workshops aim to celebrate the sheer joy that humans get from creating something, especially in a world where everyday people are creating less and less.

After the launch, sessions continue every Monday and Wednesday evening, giving Manchester’s makers, organisers, musicians, and anyone else with something to say a regular place to create. Because sometimes, making something is the whole point.

The poster shop champions the city’s living subcultures – its music, makers, and the people who keep Manchester’s culture moving. Authenticity is the new social currency, and Dr. Martens has always believed in showing up authentically within subcultures.

So, lost a cat? Throwing a party? Getting a band together? Suddenly Real Poster Shop is created for all of it.
