Official Launch of Castlefield Gallery’s New Art Space Federation House

Castlefield Gallery’s has been addressing the lack of project space and exhibition opportunities for the burgeoning number of emerging artists in Greater Manchester since 2006 with the brokerage of alternative spaces with landlord partners such as Urban Splash and Britannia Hotels.  In the past 2 years, working with a professional space broker, CG has begun to secure a portfolio of temporary empty retail, office and light industrial units in Greater Manchester and beyond to develop opportunities for emerging creatives for the incubation of their practice, to produce work and present new art to local communities, at no or low cost to the artists. Currently CG runs New Art Spaces in Leigh, Widnes, Salford and city centre Manchester, supporting over 120 artists and a further 85 through other artist development agencies.

Since  October 2013, Castlefield Gallery has had the support of NOMA to use Federation Building which has already over 95 emerging artists, filmmakers, performers and curators working there, towards new artworks, exhibitions, theatre productions or short films.

Our official launch is on Thu 13 March 2014 with confirmed speakers Maria Balshaw (Director of Whitworth and Manchester Art Galleries, and Manchester City Council’s Strategic Lead for Culture) and Alison Clark-Jenkins (Director Combines Arts and North for Arts Council England).

The Chair of the Board of Castlefield Gallery Marla Cunningham would like to invite you to help launch this important development in supporting local talent in Manchester.
