One Angel Square Shortlisted For Greenbuild Awards 2013

One Angel Square – the new head office of The Co-operative Group in Manchester - has made the finals of the Greenbuild Awards in the 'Workplace New Build' category.

The Greenbuild Awards 2013 recognise excellence in sustainable buildings, with a particular focus on projects that can illustrate an understanding of the importance of building performance in use.

The winners will be announced at a ceremony hosted by Patrick Kielty, on May 8 at Manchester's Midland Hotel during Greenbuild Expo 2013.

One Angel Square is phase one of NOMA, the 10-year £800 million pound scheme to redevelop 20 acres of Manchester City centre, and David Pringle, director of NOMA, said: "We are delighted to be shortlisted for this award. Sustainability is at the heart of One Angel Square, from the way the building is powered to the way colleagues will commute.

"It is the most environmentally friendly large office space in Europe, and we believe it to be a genuine game changer when it comes to sustainable buildings."

Greenbuild's Lucy Young said: "We were thrilled to get so many entries to our second Greenbuild Awards and there are some very strong contenders on the shortlist, which illustrates the increasing number of organisations waking up to the importance of evaluating their buildings' performance and ensuring that a low-energy design remains low-energy in reality."

The shortlisted entries are:

  • Workplace New Build
  • One Angel Square – The Co-operative Group
  • The Lampblock – Network Rail
  • One Trinity Green – Plus Three Architects
  • Hemcrete Museum Store – Science Museum
  • Armstrong Point – Eco Environments
